Supply-chain reports suggest Apple is preparing a Product RED "China Red" limited-edition color for its upcoming foldable iPhone iPhone 18 Fold. If the reports prove accurate, it would be the first exclusive colorway for Apple’s foldable line — and one of the more striking color choices in recent iPhone history. (Note: this remains a rumor; Apple has not officially confirmed specifications or availability.)

A distinct red finish

According to the reports, the red build carries an upgraded finish, with an anodized-aluminum frame combined with a nano-level coloring process that shifts from deep wine red to bright orange-red depending on the light. The rear shell keeps a frosted texture but features a richer, more saturated red than past Product RED models — calmer in tone yet higher in recognition.

Expected specifications

iPhone 18 Fold is widely expected to use an inward-folding design, measuring roughly 9.2mm thick when closed and about 4.6mm when open. Core specs anticipated include an A20 Pro chip, 12GB LPDDR6 memory, and Apple’s in-house C2 cellular modem.

On the imaging side, a triple-camera array is tipped: a 48MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 12MP telephoto. Battery capacity is expected around 5,000 mAh with 45W wired charging and 25W MagSafe wireless charging. The external screen is said to be a 5.5-inch OLED at 120Hz, paired with a 7.8-inch inner OLED, and a self-developed hinge allowing 0–180 degree free-standing angles.

More than a color swap

Product RED models traditionally carry a charitable element, with a portion of each sale donated to the Global Fund. If the foldable red version continues this tradition, it would retain that charitable dimension along with its distinctive look.

Availability is reportedly limited: the red edition may be sold only through the Apple Store online and flagship stores in first-tier cities, staying out of third-party channels such as Tmall and JD.com self-run stores. Units could be limited with a sell-out-while-supplies-last approach, using an online reservation plus in-store pickup model. System-wise, the device may boot with a dedicated red dynamic wallpaper and a red UI theme.

Pricing and storage

The standard model is expected in black, white, and blue, with a starting price near ¥18,000. The "China Red" limited edition reportedly offers three storage tiers — 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB — with configuration and pricing expected to match the standard editions rather than carrying a premium for the exclusive color.

From the charitable nature of Product RED to the scarcity of an official-channel limited release, Apple appears to be leaning on the color to boost recognition and buzz. If the red foldable comes to market, it could become one of the most talked-about versions among Apple enthusiasts — and a must-watch for red lovers in China.
